This Job Applicant Privacy Notice ("Job Applicant Notice") explains how Mattel, Inc. and its affiliates and subsidiaries (including, but not solely, Fisher-Price, Inc., American Girl Brands, LLC, HIT Entertainment Limited, Mega Brands Inc. and their affiliates and subsidiaries, the complete list of which can be found here) (together, "Mattel", "we", "our", or "us") collect, use, disclose, store, transfer, and otherwise process personal information about candidates who apply for positions with us.
When we say, "personal information," we're talking about any details that can be used to identify you. This includes information you might share directly with us, like your name, phone number, or email, or information we might gather from your devices, like your computer or phone, when you visit our websites or the website you use to submit your application. When we refer to "processing," this means any operation performed on your personal information, such as collecting, using, storing, transferring (including cross-border transfers to other Mattel entities and third parties as described below), disclosing, altering, or erasing your personal information.

1. Introduction – Our Approach to Privacy

This Job Applicant Notice applies to the jobs.mattel.com website (as well as all services, features, and functionality therein including all applicant sourcing, tracking, and hiring platform, software, and services) and applies to all job applicants) to the extent that any such individuals use this site to apply for a position at Mattel. After you become an employee, contractor, or temporary worker of Mattel, the Mattel Employee Privacy Policy covering personnel for your region will govern how we handle your data. Information we receive during an application process might subsequently fall and be processed within the scope of said Employee Privacy Policy.
2. Who Controls Your Personal Information
The Mattel entity to which you submit an application is the data controller and decides how and why your personal information is processed.
3. Personal Information We Collect and Why
The table below provides the categories of personal information we may collect about you when you apply for a role at Mattel, the sources of such information, and the purposes for which we use it.
Personal information will generally be collected directly from you, including via the online profile form or via your cover letter, résumé/CV, supporting document that you provide as part of your application as well as from authorized third parties (e.g., people you have named as your references, previous employers, schools, public authorities, or public resources), subject to the requirements of applicable law.
Depending on the nature of the position and the jurisdiction, you may provide and we may collect:
- Personal details (such as your name, address, phone number, date of birth, gender, identification card number, passport number, phone number, email address and personal photo).
- Application information (such as résumé/CV, cover letter, work history, education and qualification details, skills, compensation expectations, and eligibility for and participation in benefit schemes) and relevant supporting documents (such as education and qualification certificates, professional certificates, certificate of no-criminal convictions, employment termination/resignation certificates from previous employers, etc. if required by law).
- Interview materials (such as notes, assessments, comments, and, where applicable, recordings or transcripts of interviews).
- Pre-employment screening results (such as references, education, professional and employment verification, directorship searches, adverse media searches, health examination results, credit searches, and background, sanction, credit, and/or criminal checks (where permitted by law).
- Eligibility-to-work information (such as passport, work permit, visa, government identification documents, and right to work status).
- Any other data you provide during the application process, including electronic communications with us.
- To create, open, and maintain your applicant record and manage our relationship with you.
- To communicate with you about your application and the recruitment process.
- To conduct identity checks and assess your qualifications, suitability, and eligibility for the role (where permitted by law).
- To arrange and conduct interviews and assessments, and to maintain internal records such as interview notes and evaluations.
- To perform background and reference checks, including employment history, professional qualification verification, directorship searches, adverse media searches, sanction searches, credit checks, and criminal records checks, where permitted by law.
- To determine your eligibility to work and fulfill our obligations to relevant government authorities.
- To prepare an offer of employment or engagement and determine compensation and benefits.
- To analyze and improve our hiring practices, including monitoring diversity and equal opportunity (in anonymized or aggregated form where possible).
- To protect the health and safety of our personnel and visitors to our premises, including health and safety screening and compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.
- To comply with legal obligations, respond to lawful requests from authorities, and defend our legal rights.

4. How Long We Keep Your Personal Information
Subject to applicable law, we retain your personal information for no longer than necessary for the purposes described above and in accordance with our legal obligations and legitimate business interests. The appropriate retention period depends on the amount, nature, and sensitivity of the information, the potential risk of harm from unauthorized use or disclosure, the purposes for which we process your information, and applicable legal requirements. If you are hired, relevant data collected during the application process will be transferred to your personnel file. If you are not hired, we may retain your information in accordance with our data retention policies, for example, to consider you for future roles or as required by law. You may request deletion of your data where permitted (see Section 8).
5. Disclosure of Your Personal Information
We may share, transfer, disclose, grant access to, or otherwise make available your personal information to the following third parties, as required for the purposes described in this Job Applicant Notice:
- Other Mattel group entities, including subsidiaries and affiliates, as necessary for the processing purposes, in particular for global oversight of recruitment activities and general workforce administration, including: complying with applicable laws and employment-related requirements; monitoring and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, and applicable policies and procedures; communicating with job applicants, their approved contacts, and third-parties; responding to and complying with requests and legal demands; complying with corporate financial responsibility; and managing corporate information security. Any access to your personal information is restricted to those individuals who have a need to receive or access your personal information in order to fulfill their job responsibilities. You may obtain a list of the Mattel’s affiliates that received your personal information by submitting your request to TalentAcquisition@mattel.com.
- Subject to confidentiality obligations and data processing agreements, trusted service providers and advisors who perform services on our behalf, such as recruitment platforms, background-check vendors, travel and insurance agencies, IT support, and professional advisers (lawyers, auditors), may also receive your personal information as necessary in connection with our business operations, in particular to carry out our contractual relationships with such third parties, to administer the workforce, for human-resources management, comply with applicable laws and employment-related requirements, communicate with you and third parties, conduct IT management, conduct security screenings, and respond to and comply with requests and legal demands.
- If a Mattel business is sold or transferred in whole or in part or if Mattel acquires or integrates another entity into the Mattel business (or any similar transaction is being contemplated), your personal information may be transferred to the other entity (e.g., the new employer, potential new employer, the new acquired entity, or potential new acquired entity) prior to the transaction (e.g., during the diligence phase) or after the transaction, subject to any rights provided by applicable law, including jurisdictions where the other entity is located.
- Government authorities, courts, regulators, or law enforcement agencies as required by law or to protect our or others’ rights, property, or safety.
- Any third party you specifically request or authorize.
6. When We Rely on Consent
In some cases, we may need your explicit consent to process certain types of personal information, such as Special Category or sensitive information (for example, health or diversity information), or to conduct certain background checks. If we require your consent, we will inform you of the data we intend to use and the purpose before or at the time we request consent. You are never obliged to provide consent, and you may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us at TalentAcquisition@mattel.com. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
7. Storing and Transferring Your Personal Information Internationally
Because Mattel operates globally, your personal information may be stored, accessed, or transferred to countries outside your home country, including countries that may not provide the same level of data protection. We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information and use safeguards such as standard contractual clauses to ensure your data is protected when transferred internationally.
We maintain reasonable physical, technical and procedural safeguards that are appropriate to the sensitivity of the personal information in question. These safeguards are designed to help protect your personal information against loss, unauthorized access or disclosure, modification, or destruction. In the event that we are required by law to inform you of any privacy or security event relating to your personal information we may notify you electronically, in writing, or by telephone, if permitted to do so by law.

8. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live and applicable data protection laws, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Right of access – to know whether we hold your information and to receive a copy.

- Right to erasure – to request deletion of your information in certain circumstances.
- Right to restriction – to limit how we use your data in certain circumstances.
- Right to object – to object to processing based on our legitimate interests.
- Right to data portability – to receive certain information in a portable, machine-readable format or request transfer to another party.
- Right to withdraw consent – where we rely on your consent.
- Right to the portability of your personal information – in certain circumstances, to receive the personal information about you that you have provided to us, in a structured, commonly used and machine-readable format so you can transmit this personal information to another entity.
